Welcome to our Curriculum page! On this page, you’ll find when students learn to count in their kindergarten experience, when they learn about time and money in the second grade, or when they study water, ice, wind, and vegetation in the fourth grade.  Students learning Navajo in middle school, for example, develop an understanding of the Diné way of life, while listening, communicating, observing, and understanding Navajo Language and Culture, historical events, people, and symbols.  While learning Spanish in the 7th grade, students study how specific word choice impacts meaning and tone, which is another example of what students learn, while applying critical thinking. In middle and high school, our students can be exposed to rigorous music programs that include band, choir, and guitar to name just a few. Students can learn musical skills as well as problem-solving skills while they play beautiful music. The curriculum page is the roadmap to your child’s learning, become familiar with it FMS families, and help your student succeed.

Starting the 2023-2024 academic year, high schools will use a 0-100 point scale to report to students and families. This grading scale aims to provide general information for families about your student's progress in each subject and the learning required to improve performance. All K-8 schools will continue to report on a 0 to 4-point grading scale to communicate your student's knowledge and skills directly related to New Mexico State Standards. Our goal remains to provide an accurate and consistent reporting practice across the district. We are confident in the efforts of our teachers to provide quality instruction, authentic assessments, and additional opportunities for students to learn. As always, we are committed to ensuring a rigorous curriculum while also providing appropriate support for our students.  We look forward to our continued partnership in student learning.

In the Academic Year 2023-24, any course numbered above 1100 will be weighted. As you may know, grades earned in Dual Credit Courses have been weighted by adding 1.0 to the point value for the grade earned in a course, and participation in those courses allows students to meet requirements for high school graduation while simultaneously earning college credits. If your student is interested in Dual Credit Courses or for more information about this change, please contact your school counselor.

Dear High School Families, we are reaching out to you to inform you of some important updates for Dual Credit Courses.

Firstly, Farmington Municipal School District has made updates to the dual credit course equivalencies for specific core classes. This means that your child may have the opportunity to take select dual credit classes to fulfill “core credit” requirements in Math, English, Social Studies, and Science. You can find more details about these eligible classes by visiting this link.

Additionally, there is a new requirement for all high school students: completing a Dual Credit Contract before registering for Dual Credit classes. This contract only needs to be completed once, and it's designed to make sure both students and families understand the important information about taking dual credit courses. This includes how it might impact eligibility for athletics/activities and federal/state financial aid. San Juan College High School students will not be required to complete a contract.

These changes are part of our efforts to provide more opportunities for students. They've been made after careful discussions with teachers, counselors, and parents like you.
